mindful minute

We are freed and imprisoned by our thoughts

You are creative. Sometimes it is difficult to release creativity and no new ideas are coming. Even the most creative person gets bored and starts going round in circles. How can you unblock the creativity within you.

Creativity is not an analytical process. It defies logic, rationality and a formal plan. The harder you push, the more elusive it becomes. Wouldn’t it be great if it could be called up on a moment’s notice?

Be comfortable in a stream of consciousness without any analysis or judgment. Allow whatever comes to mind, with no judgment, no editing, no censorship, no analysis. Just let every thought pour out.

The educational system does not teach children how to foster their inherent creative talents. Emphasis is put on rote learning and memorization. Imagination is becoming a lost art. How do we retain it as we mature? How do we channel this gift into everyday life?

When ideas are brought forth, no critical comments are allowed. All ideas are explored. Evaluation is to be reserved for later. There is an instinct to be analytic, practical, convergent in our thinking. Creating and criticizing at the same time stifles progress. Wild thoughts are fine. Think the unthinkable.

Improve or build on the ideas of others. How can it be made to work better? Changing just one aspect of an average idea can sometimes leverage the idea to greatness.

Strive to generate a lot of ideas and sift through them later. You will have many to choose from, adapt, or combine. You can’t always conceptualize the end of a project. Sometimes you just need to jump in, play with it. Let it evolve, work with it and see where it goes.

Always be mindful of different things you can do, or different ways to do what you’re already doing. Read, listen, watch and do. The idea is to reach outside your comfort zone and take the experience and use it to create something that is uniquely you.

You may need to remove yourself from the project for a while. Take a nature walk, listen to music or work on another project. Do something that will refresh and rejuvenate you. Your mind and spirit are asking for this

The final step is to make an action plan for the implementation of the solution, and to carry it out. Get outside your head and bring your ideas to the world.

If you have the time, maybe you could share some of your thoughts with the rest of us.
